Nomination of Officers for 2010 – 2011

We have now had two members step up with offers to serve as President and Treasurer.  So, with this news, we know that the future of the organization is assured for at least another year.  The following slate of officers will be presented for election at the annual meeting on May 8th.  Nominations from the floor will also be in order if there are others interested in serving.

  • President – Monica Isbell
  • Vice President / Webmaster – Mike Lincicum
  • Secretary – Karen Harshbarger
  • Treasurer – Bill Pritchard

A big thanks to Monica and Bill for their willingness to take on these responsibilities and also to Karen for agreeing to serve a second term as Secretary.

Annunal Meeting Notice

The annual meeting of the Neahkahnie Community Club will be held at 7:00 PM, Saturday May 8, 2010 at the Pine Grove Community House in Manzanita.

The primary purpose of this meeting will be to elect officers for the next year. Karen Harshbarger has agreed to serve one more term as Secretary and Mike Lincicum has offered to serve one term as Vice-President / Webmaster. The current officers, acting as a nominating committee, have contacted a number of members seeking volunteers to serve as President and Treasurer for the next year. At this time, there are no members who are willing to accept these two positions.

The Club cannot legally function without officers. If there are no members willing to serve as President and Treasurer by the time of the Annual Meeting, then there will be no alternative except to entertain a motion to disband the Club at that meeting.

Since we are a registered non-profit corporation in the State of Oregon, there are legal requirements which must be followed in order to dissolve the corporation. This includes disposing of the Club’s assets and filing the necessary paperwork with the State Corporation Division. The current officers would be responsible for taking these steps.

Accordingly, the following agenda is proposed for the meeting.

– Minutes of previous meeting
– Treasurer’s Report
– New Business
– Election of officers (if willing members are present)
– Motion to disband the organization (if officers cannot be elected)
– Motion to dispose of the Club’s assets (if vote to disband passes)
– Other items from the floor

Coffee, tea, and cookies will be available at the meeting.

Mark Your Calendar

It’s time to mark your calendar for the next upcoming NCC events.

The Annual Meeting will be held at the Pine Grove Community House at 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2010.  This is our only formal meeting of the year, and the only item currently on the agenda is the election of new officers. The current officers have already met as a nominating committee, and they will be contacting some members to see if they are willing to serve as President and Treasurer.  Karen Harshbarger has agreed to serve one more term as Secretary and Mike Lincicum has agreed to serve as Vice President / Webmaster for the next year.

We will provide coffee and dessert at the Annual Meeting again this year. If there are other issues that members would like for the officers to add to the agenda, please use the contact form on the right sidebar or add a comment to this post.

We have also set the date for the Annual Picnic for 2010.  Pam Greene has once again generously offered the use of her house for the picnic.  The event will be held from noon until 3:00 PM, on Saturday, August 14th. There will be more information coming and a request for RSVP’s when the event gets closer.

Annual Holiday Party – Update

The Neahkahnie Community Club Holiday Party was a great success again this year.  We had wonderful weather and a good turnout of members. Thanks to Tom and Betty Mock, the decorations at the Pine Grove Community Center were impressive.  Lynn Eisenhauer played the piano and sang holiday music throughout the evening, and the food and desserts provided by the members were a real treat. We collected food and money for the local food bank, and members showed their generosity to help those in need.

There are more pictures from the party available for viewing in the Photo Album link under “pages”on the right side-bar.

2009 Annual Picnic – Update #2

The annual Neahkahnie Community Club picnic was a fine success.  We again wish to thank Pam Greene for her generosity in hosting this event at her home for the last three years.  She has already offered to host the picnic again next year.

There was a great turnout of more than 80 members and guests despite the unsettled weather.  While we did have a little mist, it certainly didn’t keep everyone from having a good time.  In addition to being our host, Pam also was the official photographer for the event.  A new club Photo Album page has been set up where you can see Pam’s photos from the picnic as well as more photos from the 4th of July Parade. Just click on the Photo Album link under the “pages” sidebar on the right.

Our two Vice Presidents Kay Covert and Kathleen Ryan, and our Secretary Karen Harshbarger did an outstanding job of coordinating the event and getting the word out to insure that we had great participation.

NCC in the Manzanita 4th of July Parade

A big thanks to Lyn Eisenhauer and her friends for making the Neahkahnie Community Club’s participation in the Manzanita 4th of July Parade a big success.  We had Lyn’s VW convertible, complete with bubble machines and patriotic decorations.  The Lincicum family and their dogs passed out candy and dog biscuits along the route behind the new Neahkahnie Club banner.    We hope that this will be the first of many years for our Club to participate in the parade, and hopefully next year we will have even more people marching.

Community Outreach

One of the topics that was discussed at the May 2nd meeting was how to reach out to members of the Neahkahnie community who are not currently members of the Community Club.

The Executive Committee has already taken several steps to do this.  Kay and Walt Covert included a link to the Club’s new web site in their mailing to all property owners earlier this year. We also included a flyer inviting Neahkahnie property owners to check out the club with the Neahkahnie Water District bills that went out at the end of April. In addtion, we have gotten the Club listed under “Community Organizations” on the Neahkahnie.net web site. So far, these efforts have resulted in numerous “hits” on the web site and a few new members.

As was discussed at the meeting, the best way to reach out to other members of our community is through direct face-to-face contact.  If you have a neighbor who is new to the community or who does not currently belong to the Club you can let them know what we do and invite them to join.  As a way to help with this, a link to a color version of the membership invitation flyer that was sent out with the water bills is included below.  A copy is also available under the “pages” section on the right.  Feel free to download and print copies of this invitation and give one to community members who may be interested in the Club.

May 2, 2009 Meeting

A meeting of tne Neahkahnie Community Club was held on May 2, 2009.  The meeting was well attended and we had a lively discussion of the proposed amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws.

The proposed amendments were approved with a few minor changes offered by members at the meeting.  A copy of the new Constitution and By-Laws is now available for viewing and download under the “pages” heading on the right. Under the revised By-Laws this was the only scheduled business meeting for the year.  The next business meeting will be the Annual Meeting to be held in May 2010.  If there is a need to take action that cannot be handled by the Executive Committee before then, the revised By-Laws allow the Executive Committee to schedule a special meeting.

Members attending the meeting enjoyed a post-meeting dessert of pies provided by the Club from the Nehalem Bay Pie Company.  A few lucky members also took home the plants that were used as decorations on each table as door prizes.

A couple of pictures of members enjoying pie and conversation are below.

Neighborhood Emergency Planning

Two of our members, Mike and Linda Cook, are Block Captains in the Neighborhood Emergency Planning program.  This program provides information and assistance to our area in the event of a major disaster such as an earthquake or a tsunami.  They have suggested that critical emergency planning information be included on our web site. Several of our other members also serve as Block Captains in the program.

A new page with links to three emergency planning documents has been added to the web site.  Please click on Neighborhood Emergency Planning under the “pages” heading on the right sidebar to access this information.

A link to the new Nehalem Bay Neighborhood Emergency Planning web page has also been added under “neahkahnie links” on the right sidebar. This web page provides comprehensive information regarding disaster planning for the Manzanita / Neahkahnie communities.
